Keeping Theatre Alive for 65+ years!

Heights Youth Theatre exists to create quality live theater that entertains its audiences and educates, encourages and inspires its young artists to grow!

About Us

Heights Youth Theatre is one of the oldest children’s theaters in the country offering kids aged 6 to 18 high quality theatrical experiences and training, for 65+ years, while also creating well rounded creative individuals.

Heights Youth Theatre (HYT) is a non-profit organization committed to providing quality children’s theatre on the East Side of Cleveland. Pre-Covid, HYT served close to 5,000 youth and families each season.

Originally a program of the Cleveland Heights-University Heights Board of Education, Heights Youth Theatre is now administered by a Board of Directors, staff, and many hard working volunteers from the community.

For countless numbers of children, Heights Youth Theatre is their first exposure to live theatre. It has been a place where young people from first through the twelfth grade from the inner ring suburbs of Greater Cleveland and beyond enjoy a safe, nurturing environment and a cooperative learning experience as they work together to mount a production. The extraordinary artistic quality of Heights Youth Theatre’s productions and the sense of connection to a larger community are but a few of the compelling reasons children and adults choose to become involved with HYT.

HYT has expanded its offerings to include programs that provide the opportunity for our youth participants to engage in dialogue around timely social issues such as diversity, building relationships, and being equitable and inclusive.

UPDATED 8/5/22

HYT is continuing to monitor CDC recommendations as well as other local arts organizations in determining best practices for in person programming.

HYT has been fortunate to remain operational since the beginning of COVID while combining in person as well as virtual opportunities.

HYT is so fortunate to be staffed by a dedicated team of skilled local Cleveland arts professionals with a deep passion for youth development and education.

The staff is supported by a committed Board of Directors made up a diverse group of people from the Greater Cleveland community.
